I left hell when I said goodbye. You looked at me and shrugged. You asked if I was sure enough– The distance as we hugged.
I looked into the mirror. T’was a stranger staring back. The bruises seemed unclear– Like a horse running off its track.
I couldn’t seem to capture. All the moments that were good. I just thought about the times. I wanted to leave– or wished I could.
Cuffs clinked onto your hands. You staring back at me. I thought it was my fault– the abuse I didn’t see.
I think about those days. I thought I wished I’d died. Than to go through one more day. For you to make me cry.
But now I’m suddenly knowing. That I’m worthy of much more. The day you left my life– Was the day I began to soar!
